Freedom House Ambulance Service

The first ambulance service in the United States crewed by paramedics, the Freedom House Ambulance Service served the Hill district of Pittsburgh, PA from 1967 to 1975. At a time when the local “ambulance” might well be an off-duty hearse, the pioneering paramedics of Freedom House Ambulance Service were able to provide life saving care enroute to the hospital.
